Higher Education students studying Media and Photography degree courses at University Centre Rotherham (UCR) have collaborated to host a charity film night for Sheffield based health and wellbeing charity, Kindness & Co, the event raising over £600.
The fundraiser was a film and photography exhibition, showing the student’s latest creative work, which included a number of comedy themed showings. Daniel Shipway, a Media student who helped coordinate the event said, “We chose to work with Kindness & Co because they stood out the most to us with their aims to promote positive change in the local community, and we’ve all enjoyed working with them.
“At first it was a challenge to organise and assign roles, but with our commitment to making it a success for such a good cause we wanted to make sure that everyone enjoyed the event.”
Each student on the project were assigned different roles, including finance, marketing and project management. Owen Raynes is a Photography student who also worked on the fundraiser – he said, “Responsibilities were assigned to each person’s interests and skills, with tasks such as organising activities for the fundraiser, choosing the right films and photography to exhibit and inviting guests. It was great to see what we’d achieved together and something we can use as an example when we talk about relevant experience with any potential employers.”
