The Assistant Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship prepares you for a career as an Assistant Practitioner in the Health Care sector.
Assistant Practitioners work as part of the wider Health and Social care team and have direct contact with patients, service users and clients, providing high quality and compassionate care.
As an Assistant Practitioner, you will work at a level above that of Healthcare Support Workers and have a more in-depth understanding of the factors that influence health and ill-health, including the relevant anatomy and physiology of patients.
Assistant Practitioner is a job title applied to a wide variety of roles that have been developed locally by employers to meet service needs. On successful completion of the apprenticeship standard, you will have developed the core skills, knowledge and behaviours required when working in today’s Health and Social care sector.
As an Assistant Practitioner you will also develop additional skills according to employers’ requirements, depending on the clinical or professional area you are working in. Examples of these areas are Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Orthopaedics, Hospice care, Mental Health and Social Care.
When studying the Assistant Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship, you will be taught by Staff who have a wealth of experience relating to teaching and the health and social care sector.
You will also have Access to the Rotherham College, University Centre in Rotherham (UCR) and Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) facilties, enabling you to study locally.
We also work very closely with local employers to support you on your apprenticeship journey in the workplace
On the Assistant Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship, you will cover Modules in the following areas:

Year 2 Level 5

Once you have achieved the Higher Apprenticeship, including the Foundation degree, you can apply to Sheffield Hallam to top this up to a full degree in Health and Social Care.
For those Assistant Practitioners who wish to progress into Registered Practice, the apprenticeship can provide credits into some Higher Education programmes aligned to professional registration.
You may also be able to enter Adult Nurse training at year 2. For other branches of nursing please discuss with the tutor and with Sheffield Hallam staff.
You may also be able to progress to Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy at Sheffield Hallam University. Apprenticeships in these subjects may also be accessed but would need to discuss with the employer.
