  • We are building a specialist centre for degrees and higher-level qualifications to help reduce the skills gap locally and support our economy.
  • 17.4% of the population in Rotherham and Bassetlaw have a higher or degree-level qualification (Level 4 or above), compared to the national percentage of 27.4%.
  • The University Centre Rotherham (UCR) is a £10.5 million campus including specialist teaching facilities, seminar and lecture rooms, library, café and independent and group study spaces.
  • UCR is due to open in autumn 2018 on Doncaster Gate in Rotherham town centre near our Rotherham College campus.
  • The centre will deliver degree courses accredited by top universities and awarding bodies, including Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Hull.
  • To achieve the UCR vision the RNN Group is supported by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Sheffield City Region, Lloyds Bank and the Rotherham Together Partnership.
  • The University Centre Rotherham (UCR) is part of the same education and training group, the RNN Group, which incorporates Rotherham College, North Notts College, Dearne Valley College and other training organisations.
  • The RNN Group Colleges currently offer over 30 university-level programmes, with over 400 higher-level students.
  • The RNN Group has a TEF (Teaching Excellence Framework) silver rating, for delivering high quality, learning and outcomes for its students. It consistently exceeds rigorous national quality requirements for UK Higher Education.
  • The RNN Group has been working closely with 200 of over 1,000 employers they work with to develop courses that particularly meet a need for the local economy.
  • More than 50 different courses are expected to be running by 2020.
  • The University Centre Rotherham (UCR) is estimated to attract 1,000 additional students over the first five years.
  • UCR will offer Degrees, with tuition fees well below the £9,000 or more charged by many universities.
  • UCR is a key element of the Rotherham Plan 2025; a strategy to regenerate Rotherham and improve its economy.
  • Willmott Dixon are the appointed contractors building UCR with architects Bond Bryan.
