Rotherham is Wonderful – Hidden Gems

10 June 2025

Rotherham is truly wonderful! There are some hidden gems around the town centre to enjoy on a ramble on a warm – or wet – June day.

Hidden Gems in Rotherham

Ministry in Rotherham

Start off at the Ministry in Rotherham which has lovely views to the Minster and Minster gardens.

They have lovely coffee and serve breakfast and lunch. They have a fab afternoon tea menu and kids menu too.

Rotherham Minster

After fueling up, visit the 14th century Minster with 12 bells although this has been a site of worship for over 1,000 years.

This month, they have just conducted a ‘leap of faith’ to help support the work of this amazing place. You can learn all about their redevelopment plans to make the building fit for the 21st century too.

Christian place of worship

Over the bridge is Our Lady on the Bridge Chapel. This quaint landmark is a Christian place of worship built in 1483 as part of Rotherham Bridge and is only one of three in the country!

The Old Town Hall Complex

Continue down Frederick Street and turn right onto Howard Street to enjoy some little shops in the Old Town Hall complex.

These are independent shops at their best in a beautiful location including a wool and toy shop. Something for children and crafters alike!

Arc Cinema

Opposite the Minster and across the River Don you can enjoy the brand new Arc cinema and take in your favourite release as well as fuel up in some of the new eateries on Forge Island too.

Clifton Park

If you fancy a bit of green time, continue up past the market and up Wharncliffe Street to enjoy Clifton Park.

The variety of activities and gardens in this town centre green space is amazing. It even has a rock garden and a skate park, as well as an ice cream kiosk for those hot summer days.

Rotherham Civic Centre

Back out and down Doncaster Gate, head for the Rotherham Civic Theatre to take in a show.

The Wharncliffe Restaurant (part of Rotherham College) offers a theatre menu on some nights of the week if you need something to eat, all enjoyed in a fine dining atmosphere without the fine dining prices.

Rotherham High Street

Continuing on from the Civic you reach the High Street which houses a number of gems.

Firstly, if you need a coffee pit stop and like me enjoy wholesome food to take away and experiment with in the kitchen, there is the Miele Deli which has everything Italian including cannoles and great coffee too as well as authentic ingredients to purchase – their range of pasta is amazing!

Opposite – for those of you from out of town – is the George Wright Boutique Hotel – a great little place hidden away to stay overnight whilst enjoying the delights of Rotherham and the surrounding area.

Finally for those who enjoy shopping, next to Miele is the Rotherham Visitor Centre and Makers Emporium housing fantastic crafts from local artists. Not only that, the Yella Brick Road ladies clothes shop opposite houses a treasure trove of fashion finds!
