Future Stars Take Centre Stage at University Taster Day
The vibrant buzz of youthful excitement filled the air at our university campus on the 21st May, as we welcomed a cohort of enthusiastic Year 6 students from a local primary school Oasis Academy Don Valley for an inspiring taster day.
The aim was simple yet powerful: to ignite their imaginations, raise their aspirations, and empower them to believe in their future potential.
The day was designed to offer a hands-on glimpse into a variety of exciting curriculum areas. The children were given the opportunity to select the subject that most piqued their interest, allowing them to delve deeper into a field they felt a genuine connection with.
The Music and Performance studios were alive with creativity! Aspiring musicians delved into rhythm, while in performance, students participated in lively improv sessions. They enjoyed acting games before tackling improvisational scenes, challenging themselves to imagine objects in new ways—for example, treating a hat as anything other than its true form.
The Art and Fashion department was buzzing with creativity! Students dove into a world of colour and design, not only personalising their own graduation caps but also designing a unique t-shirts for our beloved University Centre Rotherham graduation bears. The winning design will be proudly printed and delivered to the school!
The Media and Photography suite was a hub of digital exploration, with the youngsters learning about storytelling through images. They had to use prompt cards and write a complete story board around them.
Meanwhile, in the Health area, inquisitive minds engaged in interactive activities such as taking temperatures, measuring heights, taking blood pressure, looking at the germs on our hand under special light, and so many other activities where they got to discover the fascinating world of the human body and well-being!
The energy and engagement in each session were palpable. You could see the spark of discovery in their eyes as they participated in the activities led by our passionate university staff and students. The atmosphere was one of encouragement and fun, breaking down any preconceived notions about higher education and making it feel accessible and exciting.
