Things to get involved in at University Centre Rotherham
Here at University Centre Rotherham (UCR), we are a small, friendly local campus, which is probably one of the main reasons you are considering studying with us. But even though staying local is what you are after, that does not mean to say you don’t want a fantastic university experience. University Centre Rotherham can offer you both, as there are plenty of activities to get involved in.
So, ready to hear how you can get stuck right in? Here are the best things to get involved in at UCR.
Have your voice heard
Our Higher Education student voice is a chance for you as a student to be heard, and provide your tutors with critical feedback to ensure university is the best it can be for you and your friends. You can volunteer at the start of the academic year to be a course representative, and you will have online meetings at the start of each term with our achievement coach. You will provide feedback on your learner experience, the facilities, course content and assessments. It means you really get to feel like an important individual whose voice will be listened to – which is the case for each and every one of our students. Our small community means that you are cared for and valued as an individual, and we will always be here to listen.
Take part in health activities
We have lots of sporting events going on that anyone of any skill level can get involved in! We host a 5-a-side football tournament, table tennis afternoons and boxercise. Whatever it is that you enjoy, there is something for everyone. Taking part in sporting activities will help you make friends at university, whilst being great for your mental health and wellbeing – what’s not to like?! You can check out the health and activity team page to see what activities are happening when.
Do your bit for society
As well as taking part in health and wellbeing activities, you can also get involved in the social action projects we organise. Events are often organized that benefit local charities such as Rotherham Hospice, with an example being a gaming showdown fundraiser that was held in the computing department. So, not only can you have fun and meet people from other courses, but you are also helping others in the process.
Go on trips to gain industry experience
On your course, there is plenty of opportunities to go on fun trips with your classmates, whilst also gaining valuable experience within the industry. Whether it be a visit to Manchester Airport with Tourism and Hospitality, or to Grimm and Co with Graphics, there are lots to get stuck into at University Centre Rotherham.
Be elected for the Student Union
At University Centre Rotherham there is ample opportunity to make your voice heard, and make your feelings known to benefit your peers and tutors. The Student Union is a prime example of this, as you can be elected as welfare officer, activities and entertainment officer, and the student governor role. You are valued and trusted as a member of our community, so we understand it is important to give you freedom to make your university experience your own. It also gives you the experience you need for any industry through organisational skills and working with others in a team.
Become a student ambassador
Your experience with us at UCR will be fantastic, and I am sure when asked by family and friends about your degree, you will have nothing but good things to say. So, why not say this to prospective students? Student ambassadors get the chance to help out with open events, where you can be on hand to offer advice and support to students thinking about following in your footsteps. You may have experienced doubt and uncertainty at some point in your journey to UCR – which university is right for me, what course shall I do? All of these worries are normal, but it can be an anxious time for many. Why not become an ambassador and benefit others with your newfound knowledge, and encourage them that anything is possible at UCR.
So, there you have it! They are some of the fab things you can get involved in at UCR to make your university experience as memorable as it should be.
