Bars
Cutlers Arms
The Cutlers Arms is a great place to visit if you are interested in craft ales and live music. The venue is proud to serve locally brewed ales, with the Rotherham based Chantry Arms brewery, located within Parkgate. Whether it’s a stout, a bitter, or a delicious soft drink you’re after, The Cutlers Arms will have you covered.
The Stag
Are you a sport fanatic? Well, The Stag is the perfect hang out spot for you! They serve lager on draft, cocktails and pitchers, as well as various soft drinks to enjoy whilst watching Premier League and Six Nations games. It has HD screens, free wi-fi and is cask marque approved.
Restaurants and cafes
Olive Lounge
Wanting to celebrate? The Olive Lounge is the perfect place for a special occasion. The menu offers various delicious tapas dishes, perfect for sharing with your new peers. If tapas is not your thing, they offer a range of steaks, hanging kebabs and pizzas. As well as tasty food, they offer a pretty impressive range of cocktails including a Zombie, Espresso Martini, and the iconic Bellini.
The Wharncliffe
Enjoy fresh local produce at affordable prices? The Wharncliffe, which is Rotherham College’s training restaurant, is certainly a place to try whilst studying at the University Centre Rotherham. The food and drink at the Wharncliffe are prepared by the Catering and Hospitality students at Rotherham College, whilst being assisted by their tutors.
Fitzwilliam and Hughes
Fancy a bite to eat in-between classes? Fitzwilliam and Hughes are the place to go! They offer a selection of paninis and bagels, as well as homemade cakes and frappe’s. The café originated in Rotherham and has several other chains around South Yorkshire.
Day time activities
Parkgate Shopping Centre
If you’re a bit of a shopaholic, Rotherham has its own outdoor shopping complex full of restaurants and retailers. They have everything from H&M, to the Nike Factory Outlet, as well as Nando’s and Subway. So, whether you fancy a sit-down meal or a quick bite to eat, Parkgate has got you covered. There is also a Morrisons and a Wilko, making it a handy shopping spot to pick up all of your student essentials.
Clifton Park
Looking for somewhere to relax and eat lunch with your friends? Clifton Park is a beautiful space to do so. It has a museum where you can learn about Rotherham’s amazing heritage, as well as a fun park and splash zone for children. If you have a family, this would be a great place to visit in-between studying.
Nightlife
Magna
A massive part of a University experience is the nightlife, and going to events with your new peers. At night, Magna Science Adventure Centre opens up to host some of Yorkshire’s largest bassline events. Bassfest and Fearfest are hosted here every year, with acts including Chase and Status, Hybrid Minds and Central Cee. Civic Theatre
If theatre and performing arts is your thing, The Civic Theatre is certainly somewhere to visit. They offer a fantastic range of music, drama and comedy performances to come and see. Our performance students often put on shows at the Civic, so what better way to support your fellow peers?
