Course: Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care

I opted to pursue a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care to continue my educational journey.

With over 20 years of experience in the social care field and having attained several City and Guilds qualifications up to Level 5, I decided to look at doing a suitable qualification for a social work degree.

Upon researching various options, University Centre Rotherham (UCR) stood out to me, due to its proximity to my home and its intimate and friendly learning environment compared to larger educational institutions in Sheffield.

The advanced notification of timetables and the accessibility of course tutors for discussions and enquiries prior to starting my degree were particularly useful and not only that, they allowed me to accommodate the course within my work schedule.

As an older student re-entering education, it was daunting, but I knew it was my time. Given that my own children had completed their schooling and were progressing to their next stages, the timing had never felt more right to do a degree.

“I must commend the exceptional support provided by the tutors throughout this course. Their continued assistance, dedicated time for enhancing my academic writing skills, and continuous encouragement have been invaluable on my educational journey.”

I initially intended to transition to Hallam for my social work degree after completing the foundation degree at UCR, but personal and family circumstances led me to continue at UCR to finish the Health and Social Care degree.

I must commend the exceptional support provided by the tutors throughout this course. Their continued assistance, dedicated time for enhancing my academic writing skills, and continuous encouragement have been invaluable on my educational journey.

As I conclude this course, I depart with heightened motivation and enhanced confidence in my abilities, poised to pursue a master’s degree in my chosen field.

It is never too late to learn, re-enter education or even do a degree, and my advice is, if it’s what you want and the timing is right, go for it!
