Access to Health Science Professions
Why did you choose to study the Access to Nursing course at University Centre Rotherham?Â
Naomi Hall, whilst with us studied and excelled at the Access to Health Science Professions course.Â
“I chose to study at University Centre Rotherham because it was open to mature students as opposed to other local colleges at that time.”
How did the University Centre Rotherham support you throughout your journey with us?Â
Despite her limited prior experience with technology, Naomi successfully navigated the challenges of higher education with help from tutors and support staff.Â
“The fantastic librarians took time to understand my background and helped me in adjusting and adopting to different teaching methods. The librarians here played a major role in helping me with IT skills as I had not used a computer/laptop before in my life. So, their willingness, dedication, and support in terms of helping me to navigating both academic journals and textbooks were highly influential towards my academic journey.”

What were some challenges you have faced whilst studying here, and how did you overcome them?Â
Despite her IT struggles, Naomi persevered through numerous other challenges and overcame them all.
“Self-evaluation and reflection were also important in helping me appreciate small but incremental achievements. Consequently, time management was another strategy that helped me keep my emotional intelligence on check. I did this by starting my assignments at the beginning of the semester. These skills, I have continued to utilise them in my undergraduate studies and finished with a Distinction in Master of Medical Science in nursing studies at the University of Sheffield.”
How did you find your time studying with us?Â
“I am forever grateful to University Centre Rotherham and the staff there for giving me a good foundation and also helping me discover my passion for human anatomy and physiology, health psychology and research. The knowledge that my tutors Allan, Katy, and Gina deposited in me has not only contributed to my academic excellence alone but also empowered me to provide compassionate and high-quality care for patients whilst on placement during my postgraduate course.”
“My passion for knowledge acquisition kept me enthusiastic and motivated even when things were tough”.
