UCR hosts workshops and showcase event for Teach Too project

RNN Group, which comprises of Rotherham College, North Notts College, Dearne Valley College and University Centre Rotherham (UCR) has received essential funding for its involvement with the Teach Too project, an Education and Training Foundation development programme aiming to address quality improvement in technical and vocational teaching and learning. The Association of Colleges (AoC), a national voice for further education, sixth form, tertiary and specialist colleges in England, has provided the funding.

During the pilot programme, the Teach Too project has hosted a variety workshops and events, inviting local employers, internal staff and students to collaborate and feedback on what makes a high quality curriculum offer, as well as what employers are looking for in terms of softer skills as well as technical skills required for industry.

UCR has also hosted a masterclass for students on Computing and Digital courses with Game Republic, a company that runs the two largest networks in the North of England. Managing Director of Game Republic Jamie Sefton, who has over 20 years’ experience of the games design industry, led the masterclass.

The Teach Too project has been managed by Will Sibley, Curriculum Manager for Catering and Hospitality and Leanne Brunt, Curriculum Manager of Digital and Computing.

Leanne said, “From a job specification point of view, we have found that we can’t always meet specific needs of every company because of the diversity of skills they’re looking for, but we know they are looking for candidates who are working towards career goals in their own time and have the passion for their industry.

“By having this feedback from employers during these events, it’s allowed us to design a curriculum that factor in those transferrable and softer skills.”
