Lee Alexander, BEng (Hons), MSc, CEng MIMechE, PGCE
Lecturer in EngineeringHighest qualification: Master of Science in Advanced Engineering.
Teaching For: 6 years
Lee’s career in industry spanned over 20 years starting at Vickers Defence Systems in their Military Bridging division, this involved the analysis, testing and trialling of high-integrity aluminium components and welded structures used for gap crossing by the British Army.
Lee then moved to Airbus UK within the Stress Support Function of the Wing Manufacturing Centre, again this concerned the analysis and validation of manufactured parts/assemblies to ensure quality and airworthy products were supplied to the Final Assembly Line.
While at Airbus, Lee became a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Then, as a self-employed Engineer at various locations, Lee continued within the field of wing manufacturing as an Approved Signatory for Static and Fatigue, and also supported Continued Product Development such as Fatigue and Damage Tolerant assessments for service-life extensions, mission changes, increased take-off weights and the resolution of low static reserve factors for a range of components. During this time Lee completed a part-time MSc whilst working full-time and raising a family.
Lee’s teaching career began in 2018 when the opportunity arose locally. Lee covers subjects ranging from Level 3 BTEC and T Level through to Level 5 HND with a focus on maths-based units such as Mechanical Principles, Thermodynamics, and Fluid Mechanics. Lee also teaches simulation including Finite Element Analysis.
