FREDIE - Fairness In The Workplace

FREDIE: Do you know what FREDIE means?

21 May 2025

Following on from Mental Health Awareness Week, FREDIE is also something that is very important to RNN Group staff and students but what does it mean?

FREDIE is an acronym that encapsulates six core principles essential for fostering inclusive and equitable environments: Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement.

Developed by the National Centre for Diversity, FREDIE serves as a comprehensive framework guiding organisations toward creating cultures where every individual feels valued and empowered.

  • Fairness involves ensuring that decisions and policies are just, transparent, and free from bias.
  • Respect emphasises acknowledging and valuing the perspectives and contributions of all individuals.
  • Equality focuses on providing equal opportunities and eliminating discrimination.
  • Diversity recognises and celebrates the unique backgrounds, experiences, and identities that individuals bring to a community or workplace.
  • Inclusion ensures that diverse individuals are not only present but also actively involved and their voices heard.
  • Engagement relates to fostering a sense of belonging and commitment among all members of an organisation.

By embracing FREDIE, organisations not only comply with legal standards but also cultivate environments where individuals from all backgrounds can thrive, leading to enhanced collaboration, innovation, and overall success.

RNN Group embraces FREDIE in all aspects of the workplace for students and staff. We are continuing to develop our practices to ensure an inclusive and diverse workplace and learning environment for all.

We retained our Investors in Diversity award this year run by the National Centre for Diversity. The Investors in Diversity Award is recognised as the national equality standard, providing organisations like RNN Group with a bespoke approach for improving Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement practices in the workplace.

The process of achieving the award helps organisations to place structured FREDIE standards at the heart of everything they do. It gives organisations a recognised bespoke and manageable framework to bring together all of the work they do around FREDIE.

Watch this space for more developments around the RNN Group when we return for a new academic year in September!
