Course: BSc (Hons) Computing and Systems Development
Initially, I struggled with studying for exams and school so as a result I performed poorly in my GCSE’s, but I still decided to go ahead with A-Levels anyway and give them a try.
I did a lot of research to decide which course I should pick and I ended up picking Information Technology and I came out with a decent grade. The diverse modules I studied had sparked my interest in computing. this then prompted me to seek a degree in this field and so ended up applying to University Centre Rotherham (UCR).
UCR was and has been a breath of fresh air. I prefer assignments over exams because I’ve always found exams challenging, but UCR’s emphasis on assignments and coursework throughout the programme really appealed to me. This allowed me to excel without the pressure of exams.

This has given me the opportunity to connect with my tutors and receive the best support when needed. In fact, unlike many other universities, I get as much one to one time as I need to ensure I make the most of my course.”
Not only that, when I came to tour the facilities, I saw small class sizes throughout the University. These small class sizes I knew would – and do – provide such a supportive learning environment for me. This has given me the opportunity to connect with my tutors and receive the best support when needed.Â
In fact, unlike many other universities, I get as much one to one time as I need to ensure I make the most of my course. For many learners in other universities, I have heard that you have to book two to three weeks in advance to see your tutor individually!
Now, I am completing my final term in Computing Systems and Development (BSc) and I plan to study an MSc in Software Development in September 2024.
My time at UCR has been great. I had good, helpful tutors who have helped me to get where I am today and for that I am so grateful.
