HN FLEX stands for Higher National Flexible Learning, a tailored version of Pearson’s Higher Nationals (HNC/HND) that allows students to build a recognised qualification in a flexible, unit-by-unit format. It’s designed for learners who:

Want to study part-time, alongside work or other commitments Need a shorter or more modular approach to higher education Are interested in specific, career-focused units that can stack into a full qualification

With HN FLEX, students can:

Start with individual units like Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, or AI Systems Build credit gradually towards a full Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) Fit study around life and work — ideal for adult learners or career changers Access practical, employer-relevant content to boost job prospects quickly

This format is ideal for the digital and tech sector, where upskilling fast matters. It’s still Pearson-certified and respected by employers and universities.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer

Artificial intelligence (AI) engineers develop programs and algorithms which teach a machine or computer to carry out tasks and learn from them.

Day to day tasks*

Work with businesses to understand the problems they want to solve
Develop machine learning models and algorithms
Run tests on prototypes and analyse data to make improvements
Find and fix problems or ‘bugs’
Assess the risks associated with new machine learning programs
Work as part of a team to roll out AI solutions

Computer Game Developers create video games for phones, tablets, PCs and consoles.

Day to day tasks*

Work with level designers and graphic artists
Decide what a game will look like and how it will be played
Create concept art, drawings or storyboards at the planning stage
Use computer modelling and animation software to make characters and scenes
Add audio and sound effects
Write code to programme the game
Fix problems and ‘bugs’ that testers have found
