Awesome Addition: Student Changes Career by Studying Accounting

A University Centre Rotherham student has changed his career path by enrolling on the Level 3 Accounting course.

Reece May, who currently works in machinery, has decided that his passion for maths is where his future lies. He is employed through Kingdom Recruitment, however, sees his future taking a new direction.

After setting up a business, Reece quickly realised he didn’t know enough about the accounting side of the processes. The business failed, which encouraged Reece to learn more about the financial side.

He said: ‘’When the business failed, it was devastating, but it made me realise how incompetent I was with checking the accounts.

‘’I wasn’t ready at that time, and it ignited a spark within me to study.’’

The current modules being studied are extended trial balance and final accounts, which Reece hopes will set him up for university.

He said: ‘’My plan after my Level 3 is to go to university at either Leeds or Sheffield. Then, I will make a decision about whether I want to go chartered or not.’’

As well as having a full-time job around his studies, Reece also has two children. He stated that his accounting course gives him plenty of time to be with his family.

He said: ‘’I have a busy lifestyle, however studying at University Centre Rotherham allows me to have plenty of precious time with my children.

‘’It gives me the balance I need to care for my kids whilst also allowing me to pursue a new career.’’
